Volunteer / Committees

ART- Original Works

This Committee helps support art education and participation in our school by assisting the art teacher in coordination of projects for display throughout the school, and permanent art displays. It also coordinates volunteers to help assist the art teacher with projects such as the “Original Works Program”, auction projects, and decorations for particular events like Scholastic Book Fair, the school dance, and the art show. MUSIC

This Committee helps support music education in our school by assisting the music teacher in coordination of musical/singing performances and creative procurement of musical instruments for the program.

P.E.

This Committee helps support physical education in our school by assisting the P.E. teacher in coordination of the Annual Dodge Ball Tournament, Field Day and other events. The Committee also assists in creative procurement of sports equipment for the program.

Budget

This Committee is a Sub-committee of the Executive Board. The job of the Budget Committee is to analyze the goals of the BRPTA each year and create a budget to help finance those goals. The Committee submits the budget to the Executive Board no later than the second meeting of the year for ratification.

Legislative

This Committee keeps the Board and PTA members informed about current legislative issues that affect the children and schools. The Committee is responsible for researching these issues and reporting findings at the PTA meetings each month.

Family Programs

The Family Programs Committee organizes events and guest speakers throughout the school year for the Bill Roberts Community. The events may be educational or recreational, and are intended to bring the community together and inform or enhance the life long learning of each individual.

Welcoming

This Committee reaches out to interested parties and welcomes them into the Bill Roberts Community. It coordinates volunteers to lead weekly tours of the school for prospective parents and students. The Committee also coordinates and hosts an Open House for prospective Kindergarten and ECE families as well and an Open House for prospective Middle School families. Informational pamphlets and fliers are developed, printed and kept current by this Committee.

Newsletter

This Committee coordinates the PTA Newsletter, which includes articles by the Principal and the PTA President as well as fundraising updates and current and past events at the school. Timeline, writing, editing, layout and production of the publication are all carried out by this Committee.

Nomination

This Committee is a Sub-committee of the Executive Board it is a PTA required committee of three members which is formed no later than 90 days prior to the PTA elections scheduled in March. The job of this Committee is to create a list of nominees for the upcoming elections and to make sure that there is consent to serve from those nominees.

Thursday Packets

This Committee coordinates the information for the Thursday Notes page, makes photocopies of Thursday Notes and other fliers, collates the documents each Thursday morning after drop-off and delivers the packets to classrooms - enough for each student to take home in backpacks that day. In the 2009-2010 school year it is the goal of this Committee to go “paperless” by utilizing the PTA website and e-mail.

CSC Updates

(The CSC is a separate entity from the PTA, but works closely with PTA). The Collaborative School committee is a committee comprised of our principal, four teachers, four parents, guardians, a community member, and a classified employee of the school. The CSC will create and implement the school improvement plan, review school budgets, and help to determine the school staffing among other things. Meetings are held the monthly and important CSC updates may be presented at each monthly PTA Meeting.

Library Support

This Committee assists the media center by coordinating volunteers to help put away books and organize the media center. The Committee also manages the “Adopt-A-Book” and “We Can Read 1,000 Books” programs.

Enrichment Support

This Committee supports our Enrichment vendor, My Enrichment, by keeping tabs on the types of programs families would like to see at the school as well as providing feedback to My Enrichment regarding existing programs. This Committee also works to coordinate Enrichment scholarships for students in need.

Website/Communications

This Committee keeps families informed by ensuring that the billrobertspta.com website up-to-date. The Committee works closely with the Thursday Notes Committee in keeping keep flyer attachments current and will work in 2009-2010 to help the school go “paperless.” The Website Committee also manages subscriptions to info@billrobertspta.com and sends out e-mail blasts approximately 2x monthly.

Traffic

This Committee works with the school administration and DPS to analyze traffic issues at Bill Roberts and revise traffic flow as well as parking rules to ensure the safety of the students at Bill Roberts.

Membership

This Committee works to get parents and community members involved in the school by being a part of our Parent Teacher Association. The Committee hosts no less than 2 membership drives per school year, reports the membership list twice a year to the Colorado PTA, fills out and distribute PTA membership cards and has a membership table at Class Lemonades, Back-to-School Night, Open Houses and other events as needed.

About PTA

Staff Support

This Committee helps coordinate teacher appreciation activities and encourages volunteerism in the classroom. Specifically, the Committee coordinates a room parent for each classroom and communicates special needs to the parents throughout the year, assists class parents in putting together teacher “wish lists” for each classroom, organizes the collection of homemade baked items at Thanksgiving for the teachers and staff and coordinates the event calendar for Teacher Appreciation Week. Spirit Wear

The Spirit Wear Committee is a Sub-committee of Fundraising. This Committee works with the vendor to create Bill Roberts Spirit Wear. Order forms are distributed by the Committee not less than 2 times per year and they ensure that orders are correctly filled and distributed to the purchasers. Fundraising

The responsibility of this Committee is to raise funds to make up for the opportunities which are not offered through the DPS budget. A Fundraising Calendar is created and submitted to the PTA Board for approval by the first meeting of the school year. Sub-committees are formed to carry out events throughout the year.
